01 Set the Mood

If you have an extra room to be your office, that is so great! Having your work separate from your living areas is really helpful. But when I started working from home I lived in a TINY apartment where my dining table often turned into my workstation. What I would do is set the mood for work by opening the blinds, lighting a candle, and turning on my humidifier. Decluttering also helped me set the mood for getting as much done as possible!

02 Get Ready + Go Outside

Try to maintain a normal routine, I know ALL of us are having to adjust. But replacing your morning hustle and bustle by going outside and watering your plants, walking the block, or even drinking coffee in your backyard can help motivate you to get work done at home. I’m also a big believer in taking a shower and getting ready for the day, even if you put on fancier PJs!

03 Limit Your Updates

I know how important it is to stay in the know, but I try to have a “newspaper” approach to the news and only consume it in the mornings. Just because mentally it can be a lot…instead, try and listen to a Podcast you enjoy or music while you work, bonus tip is to skip the true-crime episodes and find something encouraging and uplifting during this season.

04 Stay Productive

Have you heard of the Pomodoro Technique? I love that concept, how I use it to benefit me in my productivity, is by using “timers” like Podcast episodes or even doing the laundry. When the timer goes off for laundry I will go and put another load in, or when a podcast episode ends, I use that time to check my texts/emails or take a mini-break. Taking a step away from your work can help you see something with fresh eyes, and it also challenges me to finish as many tasks on my to-do list before a timer goes off. (And I’ve completed laundry + the dishes!)

05 Make Time to Socialize

This one is so important and probably my favorite tip! Normally I FaceTime with friends who also work from home so that we can hold each other accountable for our work (or even just virtually drink coffee and catch up together!) So keep your happy hours and game nights with your co-workers/friends by making time for virtual hangouts!
