WHAT EXACTLY IS LIFESTYLE PHOTOGRAPHY?

Lifestyle photography is the fine art of documenting your everyday life. Once I get to know you a little bit more, we will plan your shoot around your favorite daily activities you don't want to forget with your family.

I DON'T FEEL LIKE A NATURAL IN FRONT OF THE CAMERA...MAYBE THIS ISN'T FOR ME?!

A misconception of lifestyle photography is that people think it is 100% photojournalistic and that there is no posing. My main goal is to make you feel comfortable, and we will start of in a pose and/or scenario that is the most natural for you, and then let everyone interact from there. (Example: If you and your family love to cuddle in bed in the morning watching Saturday Morning cartoons, we will pile everyone in the bed, it's really fun when your littles try to escape and you keep trying to catch them!)

ARE ALL LIFESTYLE SESSIONS LOCATED IN THE HOME?

Lifestyle photography sessions are meant to document a part of your story. I love at home sessions because I feel like everyone gets comfortable quicker. Especially with kids, they will warm up a lot quicker when they are in their element. However, I equally love outdoor sessions. If you and your family frequent biking at a local park, or go out for ice cream every Sunday, those moments are great moments for lifestyle sessions as well.

I WOULD LOVE AN AT HOME LIFESTYLE SESSION, BUT I DON'T THINK MY HOUSE IS PHOTOGENIC...

I must say I have shot in many homes, and I have never come across a home that is impossible to shoot in. You'll be amazed on how great putting a blanket down in front of a window, or a doorway could create the perfect home location.

DO ALL YOUR PACKAGES COME WITH PRINTS?

YES! Part of the experience is getting printed photos. There is nothing like holding your photographs in your hands.

DO I GET THE DIGITAL COPIES?

Yes, I mean prints+digital copies of important moments, talk about marking things off of your to do list!

WHY QUAINT+WHIM?

For the longest time I always said, "...and on a whim I take photos..." I've always been a photographer, but it wasn't until recently I decided to make it a career. Even though I'm quite the tech-nerd, I'm also really old-fashioned. People often describe me as being quaint and quirky. I use a "+" symbol as my "and" in between the words to symbolize that they are kind of polar opposites, it's mathy, and it's like a lower case 't'.

HAVE YOU GONE TO COLLEGE?

Yes! I majored in Digital Art at LSU and obtained my BFA in 2011. At LSU I concentrated in, photography and the age-old art of printmaking. I was also the first A.V.A.T.A.R (Advanced Visual Arts, Technology, and Research) graduate at LSU which means that I've studied computer science and implemented that technology into my art. I also studied music and performance theatre.

WHAT IS YOUR INSPIRATION?

11 days after my 19th birthday, my parents had another baby! There was a moment when I was in the labor/delivery room looking at my parents holding my newborn baby brother and thought to myself, "Whoa...my parents are parents!" I got a unique perspective of seeing how my parents raised me while I am in my adulthood. (You can read more of that story here...)

WHAT KIND OF GEAR DO YOU USE?

I use to have a very complicated set up, but it takes a way from the moments. I now shoot with:

+5D Mark III
+50mm 1.2L
+35mm 1.4L
+70-200 2.8L II
+Carry everything in my Ona Capri bag
(I have back up cameras, strobes, speedlites, various other lenses, and also Photographer's insurance)

DO YOU SHOOT MORE THAN JUST FAMILY SESSIONS (EXAMPLE: WEDDINGS)?

YES! I do...I have a very lifestyle+photojournalistic approach, so if you like candid moments and not very posed photos I'm your girl! I have photograph events, weddings, hotels, bloggers, small business owners, and for different companies. As long as you think my style would work well for you I would love to talk to you about new projects!

WILL YOU BLOG OUR SESSION?

Yes! Blogging is my number one form of advertisement! My goal for every session (as of January 2015) is to photograph as if it were to be on my blog. It ensures a quality standard for me. However, I will for sure respect your privacy and not post, blog, or do any form of advertisement with you photos if you wish otherwise.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK A PHOTOGRAPHER?

During your second trimester this gives us enough time for our schedules to line up, and plenty of time to get to know each other before our session!

HOW FAR ALONG SHOULD I BE FOR PHOTOS?

Around 7 months is ideal for maternity photos. This gives you the perfect baby bump to show off!

CAN MY KIDS/PARTNER BE IN THE PHOTOS?

Of course! You can even bring your mama if you'd like!

HOW LONG ARE MATERNITY SESSIONS?

Lifestyle sessions are typically longer than traditional sessions, my sessions typically last anywhere from an hour and a half to two hours. But don't worry the time flies by rather quickly!

DO YOU USE ANY PROPS?

I do not bring props with me to sessions. However if you have sentimental items you'd want photographed, that isn't a problem at all.

WHEN DO I GET MY PHOTOS?

Turn around time is typically 2-3 weeks.

WHEN SHOULD I BOOK A PHOTOGRAPHER?

During your second trimester this gives us enough time for our schedules to line up, and plenty of time to get to know each other before our session!

WHEN SHOULD WE SCHEDULE NEWBORN PHOTOS?

To get those curled up sleepy pictures, you would want to book your session within the first 10 days after baby is born. We can also schedule within the first month. Baby will be more alert by then.

TIPS FOR A HAPPY NEWBORN:

+Pay attention to if your newborn is happiest after a full nights rest, or after his/her second nap.
+Schedule the time for me to come in right when you are feeing your little one.
+Having white noise (box fan) around keeps newborns calm.
+Be ready to be in the photos! We can get some great family photos while you are soothing your newest family addition.

HOW LONG ARE NEWBORN SESSIONS?

Newborn sessions can be very time consuming. I do not charge by the hour, so we can adjust accordingly to your little ones schedule.
